Greetings Parents and Families of Scappoose Adventist School:
It is with great honor and privilege to be part of Scappoose Adventist School. To those of you who do not know me yet, my name is Girlie Zunega-Aguilar. I am the new Teaching-Principal at Scappoose Adventist School. I am married to Antonee Leo G. Aguilar, a registered nurse, an accountant, and a pastor.
Before joining SAS, I was teaching for 13 years as an elementary and high school teacher. I have variety of experience in regards to teaching multi-grade school. I also served for 3 years as a University Supervisor for Student Teaching, Teaching-Graduate Assistant to several professors, and an Academic advisor to Master of Divinity Students at Andrews University. In each of my roles, I have sought to ensure the success of each student and the school, by providing the best instructional and extracurricular opportunities and support possible. Similarly, it is my number one priority at SAS to ensure that every student receives the best education possible. My academic background includes a PhD in Religious Education with emphasis in Campus Spiritual Leadership (Candidate), Master of Arts in Education with emphasis in Leadership, Bachelor of Arts in Secondary Education major in English.
As Teaching-Principal at SAS, I am committed to ensuring that students need and interest help shape instruction and extracurricular opportunities. I do believe that excellent education is only possible when students, parents, and teachers work collaboratively. I look forward to becoming an integral part of the SAS community and working with each of you to continue the great success at SAS.
I believe that great schools are the results of great teachers, so my primary objective will be to ensure that every student is receiving high-quality instruction from every teacher at SAS. In order to do this, I will be providing teachers with feedback on their instruction, access to professional development, and reaching out to parents for support with academic and behavioral concerns to ensure our students are prepared for their future careers. I look forward to partnering with you to provide our students with a rigorous, engaging, and high-quality experience.
I will be working closely with our qualified teachers, Mrs. Jaryn Leung, Ms. Judelle Johnson, and Ms. Kim Eder to guarantee that all of our students are intellectually challenged and have access to the social, spiritual, and emotional support. Please get involved with the Home and School Association (HSA) to ensure that your voices are heard or send me an email directly at gaguilar@sasonline.org or call/text me at 269-697-3136.
I look forward to a great year ahead of us! Please do not hesitate to reach out to me if you have any questions, concerns, and ideas that you would like to discuss. I will be available by appointment through text or e-mail.
Thank you for the opportunity to serve your families in this role!
Have a great rest of the summer!
Blessings,
Girlie Zunega-Aguilar, PhD Candidate
